Life No, this isn't an entry regarding the Griswald family, this is the personal account of my own trip to Vegas this past weekend with my lovely accomplice, the multitalented Stephanie, aka "Wonderwoman" on my front page. The weekend started off with my favorite past time other than golf, and that was spending time on Interstate 29 to Kansas City. I'll tell you what, I've driven over an estimated 12,500 miles in the past 13 months and spent almost 100 hours in my car doing this trip. Some of you make think I'm crazy, and I probably am, but can you blame me? Just look at her for cryin' out loud! Anyway, enough 14 year old like fawning over my girlfriend...
Friday
Our flight left around 2pm on Friday afternoon and we got to Vegas around 3:15 local time and were greeted by none other than my old man, who I hadn't seen down there in awhile. The drive to his and my stepmom's house was almost aweful, there's nothing quite like spending an hour or so in a car after 3 hours and change in a plane. I'm not much of a sitter I guess anymore. Plus when you aren't use to close quarters smoking anymore it's bad when the guilty party doesn't roll his window down the entire trip. Mesquite is a town of about 18,000 and about 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas. It's a nice little town with nothing in it except a few casinos and legalized prostitution, although I saw no evidence of the later. We just kinda hung out and drank and shot the poo with my parents and ate a great dinner made by Cindy (stepmom). I also spent the better part of the evening entertaining my Dad's German Sheppard named Ripley. We hit the hay pretty early that night. So not too evenful, but pretty decent.
Saturday
We woke up the next morning and got ready to go to a casino buffet breakfast that was actually pretty good. After that we took the 10 minute tour of Mesquite and decided we'd had enough and requested that my Dad take us to our destination. The fabulous Excalibur Hotel and Casino!! Not exactly the greatest and coolest resort on the strip, but it's kind of in the middle of everything we were doing so what the hay. Of course there was a long line to check in with people yelling in about 37 different languages, not that I dislike other people's culture, it's just really kind of crazy and a shock to the system. Anyway...we checked into the Casa dey Loveshack (haha) around noonish. We decided to check the place out and go to the pool which was of course, ridiculously crowded and hot at a balmy 105 or so. Drinks of course, for those of you who have not been to Vegas are quite spendy. Nothing like using your first $20 on a couple of "small" margaritas, but oh well. After getting a little crispy poolside we kind of poked around for a little bit and then got ready for dinner and the Verandah Room at the Four Season's Hotel at Mandaly Bay. It was very good. Well, it was for me anyway. Stephanie ordered some Ravioli entree that I don't think was supposed to be on the menu, so I was kind of bummed for her, but I gave her some of my tenderloin (no jokes please) and we had a drink or two and left for Tresure Island. The show they have playing out in front has changed since we'd been down there so we decided to check it out, unfortunatly for us it had not only started but was packed. So we decided to go to our next stop on foot, which was ok, we had to make a pit stop at the Mirage. The spacing between the resorts is quite a hike in the heat, even at night. We got to the Bellagio just in time for the fountain show and "Luck Be a Lady" as playing during the show, which is one of Stephanie's favorite Sinatra songs, so hurray for that. So I've never really been a huge fan of "shows" in Vegas, except for Wayne Newton because that guy is the balls, but anyway, 'O' had never really been that high on the ol' priority list. Our seats were ok, not the greatest but the show was actually really amazing. All the swimming and acrobatics and whatnot. It's cool that former Russian circus folks can find work stateside. But all joking aside, it was really awesome. After that we decided to cab it back to the hotel and hang at a bar there and drink for a bit. While getting into a cab, who walks up to me and ask for my autograph but none other than Bruce Willis!! Actually he didn't, but he was right next to us, so it was cool to see a celeb in Vegas for the first time, since I've been there about 10 times now. After a few drinks we decided to retire and call it a day...
