Current mood: weird

Updated 6/24/2007: After going over my blog, I see that this is gone. Basically some website told me I look like Patrick Swazye. Hence the title of this entry.

Must be nice to look like people that people actually know, not like my list. I was surprised Ethan Embry wasn't on there, everytime I watch Brotherhood I think he resembles you, or Nice Guy Eddie?

Explain Yourself

Current mood: geeky
Category: Games

What can I say about the layout friends? Well, not much, other than the fact that the more "grown up" I get the more I hold on to the one thing that still mildly makes me feel like a kid. Yes, that is video games. Some people consume massive amounts of alcohol (which I do on occasion), some smoke rocks, and some even like to look at porn on the internet. Well, my vice is video games. I guess it's just something that only my generation and younger can understand Pretty harmless right? So why do I feel the need to have an entry justifying myself? I'm not sure...

Let's see, I have a social life, I like sports, I golf, I have a girlfriend, I have a good full time well paying job. See, these are all acceptable social components, and it doesn't impeed on anything previously listed. I feel like I've been raised by Nintendo, Sony, and more recently Microsoft to the point of it would be like pulling a Drew Barrymore and emancipating myself from my parents to tell my video games goodbye. Am I wrong for this? Is it bad that I play my PSP at work instead of socialize and bitch about things going on in the world of HSBC? Is it bad that I'd rather be seen as a 10 year old in a shirt and tie than someone who reads the Wall Street Journal?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then I guess I'll never grow up, cause I'm a Toys 'R' Us Kid, and I will be the coolest dad EVER

Following My Team

Current mood: optimistic
Category: Sports

Just to show that I am not a fair weather fan, I will be tracking my favorite NFL team's progress over the course of the 2006 season. This year gives me a lot of reason to believe that my team, the San Fransisco 49ers are on the road to recovery and can somehow recover from the debacle the last few seasons that are like none I have ever witnessed in my career (20+ years) as a Niners guy. It's no small task coming back from the York family taking over and handing the reigns to Terry Donahue after the fruitful Carmen Policy years.

Let me say first that I think Mike Nolan is a great coach for the average age of my team, which is obviously young. I had always questioned the ability of the veterans response to his coaching. However, after two showings this year I am happy to see that things in San Fran are going over quite well.

I was at Granite City in Sioux Falls for the season opener against the upstart Arizona Cardinals, and dispite being on the road, which the new Niners are notoriously poor at, they showed a lot in the first loss of the season. They didn't look inept like last year or helpless. Frank Gore showed flashes of brilliance, as did rookie tight end Vernon Davis. However, he did show signs of being a rookie also. Of course the young defense looked hard pressed to keep up with a top notch receiving core and veteran quarterback and one time NFL MVP Kurt Warner, but did show signs of life in third down situations which have plagued my team for years.

This weekend I was unable to see the first victory of the year for my team, as I was watching my girlfriends team, the Kansas City Chiefs. But from what I've read online, Alex Smith was solid, as were Gore and off season aquisition Antionio Bryant. The defense was decent enough to keep the Rams receiver's out of the endzone also, which is rare considering that the Isaac Bruce/Tory Holt combo is a sure bet to torch the 49er secondary on Sunday.

Next week is another home game, however it's against a much improved Philadelphia Eagles squad. Of course the week after will be a huge highlight for me as San Fransisco will be in my new home town of Kansas City to play the Cheifs. Look for the guy in the white Ronnie Lott jersey under the scoreboard. Hopefully I can make it out of Arrowhead alive!

Writing a Letter of Resignation

Keep Your Letter of Resignation Simple

Writing a letter of resignation, less formally referred to as a resignation letter, might be an unpleasant task, depending on why you're resigning. Regardless, there's really not that much to it. In its simplest form, you just date your letter of resignation, say when and what you're resigning, sign it, hand it over, and that's it. Five minutes, and you're done.

Unless you possess the judgment of an attorney and style of a professional writer, don't write much more in your letter of resignation if you wish to use your soon-to-be ex-employer as a reference. There's really no need to explain your reasons for resigning anyway. For one thing, it's really nobody's business but your own. For another, however honorable your reasons may be, it's very hard to strike just the right tone in writing.

For example, if you write in your letter of resignation that you've found a more challenging career opportunity, it implies that you're bored with your current job. If you write that you're having family or health problems, you've just documented that you might be a risky hire.

Your words may haunt you down the road, when a potential employer contacts your former employers as references. Your words might also be used as evidence against you, should you sue your former employer for a wrongdoing. For example, if you write that it's been a pleasurable experience working there, then later sue your employer, you might have a hard time proving harm.

In other words, try not to leave anything up to the interpretation (or misinterpretation) of the reader when writing your letter of resignation.

So Here We Go

Current mood: accomplished
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers

All the blogging and waiting and driving and phone minutes are coming to a close. As of today, I have accepted a job down in Kansas City and I start on October 2nd. So I'll be moving at the end of the month.

Just to give anyone an idea of what my girlfriend and I have been doing over the past year (and almost) a half, here are some statistics.

Total trips - 30
Total miles - 22,500
Total hours spent in a car - 165
Finally getting to move to Kansas City - Priceless

Haha, of course you knew that had to be coming, right? So anyway I'll be starting the first Monday in October with a very respectable company with pretty respectable pay downtown in the financial district of KC.

All I can say is that I'm so ready to do this I wish the last weekend of September were this weekend. I know the next few weeks will be a little hectic, making the social rounds with everyone before I go and getting all my stuff together. But it's all worth it, all the sacrifices the both of us have had to make we finally get to start on the "payoff." The only trips back to SF will hopefully be with her, but if not I always get to back home to her.

It still hasn't all hit me yet, I'm sure I'll start freaking out a little bit pretty soon, but we'll see on that. So anyone who reads that make sure to leave a little note or give me a buzz before I take off the last weekend of this month!
